title. Parallel Tracks & Traces

date. 2015

artist statement.

This exhibition explores the territory of deep connection to place from my bicultural perspective, through the use of mapping and through my arts practice in Textiles. The bicultural perspective originates in my parallel worlds, one my childhood in Denmark and the other my adult life in Australia. Both cultures and both places are intricate and interwoven parts of who I am. For many years I was torn by my insistence of having to choose between the two countries, and although it has definitely been challenging and painful at times, I no longer consider it a burden but as very rich landscape in which it is my journey to navigate within.

The works have evolved through ongoing experimentations with mapping, my experiences with places and through close connection with the materials.  There are numerous layers, stories and parallels in each work.
